Terms of Service
Last updated: October 30, 2026
These terms apply when you use the Joki app and this website (together, "Joki"). By creating an account or using Joki, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Joki.
What Joki is
Joki helps you learn French from short, real French videos. You can tap words in the subtitles to see what they mean, save words and videos, review them, and track your daily progress.
Your account
- You can sign up with an email and password, or with Apple or Google. Please give accurate information and keep your sign-in details safe. You're responsible for what happens in your account.
- If you're under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent's or guardian's permission to use Joki.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app under Profile → Delete account. Our Privacy Policy explains what that deletes.
Premium subscriptions
- Some features need a Premium subscription. Prices and plans are shown in the app before you buy.
- On iPhone, subscriptions are bought and billed through your Apple ID. They renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. You can cancel any time in your iPhone's Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, and you keep Premium until the end of the period you've paid for.
- If a free trial is offered to you, the app shows its length and the price you'll pay afterwards before you start it. If you don't cancel before the trial ends, the paid subscription begins.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Deleting your Joki account does not cancel a subscription. Cancel it with Apple as described above.
- For apps downloaded from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Where it conflicts with these terms, Apple's agreement wins for matters it covers.
Word explanations are generated by AI
The meanings, examples and answers you see when you tap a word or ask a question are written by an AI model (provided by OpenAI) at the moment you ask. They are usually helpful but can be incomplete or wrong. Use them as a learning aid, not as a certified translation or professional advice.
Videos
The videos in Joki are YouTube videos, played with YouTube's embedded player. They belong to their creators. Joki does not host them or claim any rights in them, and YouTube's Terms of Service apply when you watch them. If you own a video and want it removed from Joki, email us and we'll take it out.
Using Joki fairly
Please don't:
- copy, scrape or resell Joki's content, word explanations or subtitles in bulk, or use automated tools to access Joki;
- try to break, overload, reverse engineer or get around Joki's security or subscription checks;
- use the question feature to produce illegal, harmful or abusive content;
- use Joki in a way that breaks the law or other people's rights.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
Our content
The Joki app, its design, name and logo, and the subtitles and lessons we create belong to us. We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use Joki for your own learning while these terms apply.
Changes and availability
We're improving Joki all the time, so features may change, and individual videos may be added or removed. We'll try to keep Joki available, but we can't promise it will always work without interruption.
Disclaimer
Joki is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises about it beyond those in these terms. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can't be limited by law.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you for any claim about Joki is limited to the amount you paid for Joki in the 12 months before the claim.
Ending these terms
You can stop using Joki and delete your account at any time. We may end or suspend your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms. The sections on our content, disclaimer and limitation of liability still apply afterwards.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date at the top of this page, and for important changes we'll let you know in the app. If you keep using Joki after a change, the new terms apply.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you live in a place whose consumer protection laws give you rights that can't be waived, such as your state or country of residence, those rights still apply to you.
